“Everywhere but Now”
My painting intends to reconstruct a whole from the fragments of “old” knowledge.
With a critically eye it select and depicts elements from the now globalized urban topography of contemporary Western culture but also emblematic museum pieces from earlier periods or traditions, objects that haveentered intoour common memory and that function within, but mainly very much beyond the contemporary social context.
Taken as a whole, that is to say, as a convention of aesthetic thought, the pictorial narrative in these works memorializes moments of everyday life, of the kind one can encounter “anywhere” in the world, it juxtaposes these moments with elements from the corpus universalis of our culture legacy – an Egyptian falcon, an African queen head, a pre-Columbian idol, a Greek helmet, a Chinese horse.
There is a tension here, but also a kind of osmosis that I believe contributes – here and now, or everywhere but now – to urgently needed reforms in the conditions of cognition and conscience. And it does so simultaneouslythough the struggle over images and their embrace as objects of worship.

“Everywhere but Now”
Η ζωγραφική μου επιδιώκει με τα απομεινάρια της «παλιάς» γνώσης να ξαναφτιάξει ένα όλον. Αποτυπώνει με κριτικό βλέμμα στοιχεία τόσο από το παγκοσμιοποιημένο πλέον τοπίο της σημερινής δυτικής κουλτούρας όσο και επιλογές από εμβληματικά μουσειακά αντικείμενα παλαιότερων εποχών ή παραδόσεων, που πέρασαν στη μεγάλη μνήμη και λειτουργούν εντός, αλλά κυρίως πολύ πέραν των σύγχρονων κοινωνικών συμφραζομένων.
Η ζωγραφική αφήγηση, στο σύνολό της ως συνθήκη αισθητικής σκέψης μνημειώνει στιγμιότυπα της σημερινής καθημερινότητας, στιγμές από αυτές που συναντά κανείς «παντού»στο κόσμο, αντιπαραβάλλοντάς τα με ένα αιγυπτιακό γεράκι, ένα αφρικανικό κεφάλι βασίλισσας, ένα προκολομβιανό τερατάκι, ένα ελληνικό κράνος, ένα κινέζικο άλογο…, από το corpusuniversalis της πολιτισμικής παρακαταθήκης.
Μία αντιπαλότητα και ενός τύπου ώσμωση που συμβάλλει, πιστεύω, αποφασιστικά σε εκείνες τις αναγκαίες και επιτακτικές μεταρρυθμίσεις εδώ και τώρα ή παντού αλλά τώρα, σχετικά με τις καταστάσεις νόησης και συνείδησης μέσω εικονομαχίας και εικονολατρίας ταυτόχρονα.
